Organic Electronics
Organic Electronics
As a healthy body needs an Organic Meal, a
healthy society also need an Organic Electronic Devices.
Organic
Electronics is the branch of Electronics that uses Organic
materials to make circuits and other electronics Devices preferably having
advantage over traditional inorganic materials that we were all familiar with.
Since global environmental issues have
become significant world-wide problems, the development of eco-friendly,
renewable, and biodegradable material with high electrical performance is in
great demand for the construction of a sustainable, low-carbon society.
It basically deals with organic materials, such as polymers
or small molecules. The materials used in this kind of technology are carbon
based, which is the same as the molecules of living things. When considering
the properties of organic materials, we may not generally feel that they are
electrical conductors. Organic materials are thought to be excellent insulators
for a lot of technological applications.
The discovery of electrically
conductive polymers drastically changed our views on polymer materials and
formed a basis of the future organic electronics. A lot of success has been
achieved in this field and the discovery of conductive polymers has led to
interdisciplinary development among engineers in terms of industrial applications.
Currently, the application of
organic electronics is expanding to sustainable and biocompatible devices, or
so-called “green electronics” based on the merits of organic materials for
flexible and printable electronics Green materials and technologies for
electrical application are emerging concepts, which focus on the identification
and production of abundant, low-cost organic materials, or precursors, with
economically efficient synthetic routes that avoid the usage of toxic solvents
Such processes in Organic
Electronics should not generate toxic waste which require expensive handling
and disposal. Moreover, the synthesized electronic materials should ensure
low-cost fabrication procedures for the adaptation to practical devices, which
feature biodegradability and biocompatibility for environmentally friendly
disposal.
Organic Electronics has a wide
range of Applications in Electronics Industry such as OLEDs that
is Organic LEDs which uses the property
of phosphorescence to generate it’s own light instead of using backlight. You
might have observed this in wristwatches and clock dials that glows in the
dark. Second one is Organic Photovoltaic
cell (OPVs) that uses polymers as photovoltaic materials. Third one is Organic
Field Effect Transistors (OFETs) that contains conductive electrodes , an
organic semiconductors and a dielectric. Biomedicine and many more such applications.
Therefore, switching from nonrenewable
manufacturing to “sustainable” processes is regarded as the major challenge for
future, next-generation electronics, and organic materials may offer a unique
opportunity to lead the electronics industry in an environmentally safe
direction
